The Republic of Tea: New white teas and an old favorite
Personally, I don't drink coffee. I used to drink colas, regular then on to diet but we know that they aren't good for you for numerous reasons. I've always liked tea, but in the past 12 years tea has really been my beverage of choice; black, red, green, oolong, hibiscus, herbal – I like them all, even the delicate authentic white teas from China. Low in caffeine, the tender white buds are "hand-picked" just two days a year. Since the white tea is the least processed of the teas it offers up more polyphenols, or in other words antioxidants.

At the Summer Fancy Food Show I had an advanced taste of two of the new The Republic of Tea selections on their white tea blends: Honey Mango and Cucumber Mint. The show had me on food and flavor overload, so the kind folks of Republic Tea recently sent canisters of these two white teas to brew.
The Honey Mango white tea is really honey flavor forward with a mango finish and the Cucumber Mint white tea, is mild with the spearmint shining through the natural cucumber flavoring. It is delicate, although a longer steep with a splash of lime and agave nectar might have you thinking a mocktail Mojito.
In a sense, I'm a tea purist, I don't add sweeteners to my tea – I brew my tea either from the tea bag or loose tea. Flavored teas help keep down my noshing cravings and The Republic of Tea has always had a large assortment of natural flavored teas in bags and loose.
I have been a fan of The Republic of Tea's Ginger Peach which is available in black tea, green tea, decaf black, red tea and even in the delicate white tea. It was voted 'Outstanding Beverage' by the National Association of Specialty Food Trade. My neighbor and friend, who suffered with pancreatic cancer and had difficulty with food and beverage could handle tea, and he specifically liked the caffeine free Republic of Tea's Ginger Peach.
All these teas and huge, I mean HUGE The Republic of Tea selections are available for purchase directly from their website. Right now is a great time to buy because they are offering FREE SHIPPING on domestic orders over $50 which ends September 13 PST. Shop NOW! You can also check your specialty stores - I have found a small selection at Fresh Markets.
